***UPDATED on Monday!***
I'm so glad that Pat over at Doodad Kind of Town tagged me today b/c it gives me an easy post to do on a weekend that has been tough to blog on. I'm at the beach, and our condo has the first wireless router ever made, so, - as you can imagine - it hasn't gone too well. But, really, it's like that couple in Open Water... I really shouldn't be on my computer when there are waves 100 feet in front of me, right? And, wait, did I say easy? This isn't an easy post. In fact, it's gonna be quite difficult. Here are the rules for what is being called The "Other" 12 Movie Meme (via The Dancing Image):
***The challenge is as follows:
---
1. You must not have seen any of the films on your list, either in theatres or on video.
2. The films on your list should not be available on Netflix (this will be the criteria for "availability" since it's too hard to track down what's available where, to who, etc.)
3. You can organize the list however you want, in themed couplets like Piper's original list, or just as twelve semi-random films.
4. You must credit and link to my blog, Piper's blog for getting the original ball rolling, and for good measure, the guys at Out 1 for planting the seed.
5. Tag five people to keep the meme going.
6. If you're too lazy to follow all of these rules, but still want to participate, you have my blessing (the more the merrier). Except for the rule about linking to my blog. That you still have to obey.
---
Since I'm spoiled with the video stores in my town, this is gonna be REAL difficult... but fun as hell! So here goes:

1. The Quiet Man (1952, John Ford)

2. Kings of the Road (1976, Wim Wenders)

3. Last Embrace (1979, Jonathan Demme)

4. Made in U.S.A (1966, Jean-Luc Godard)

5. God of Cookery (1996, Stephen Chow)

6. Love Streams (1984, John Cassavettes)

7. Get To Know Your Rabbit (1972, Brian DePalma)

6. Love Streams (1984, John Cassavettes)

7. Get To Know Your Rabbit (1972, Brian DePalma)

8. Human Desire (1954, Fritz Lang)

9. Tragedy of a Ridiculous Man (1981, Bernardo Bertolucci)
I tag Scott, Rick, J.D., Da' Reel Whore, and Jonathan Lapper. Rip it, y'all!

Ok, NetFlix not having The Quiet Man is a sin. Plain and simple.
Ew...that one's a toughie :( Luckily (not) I don't have too much selection around these parts so it may not be as hard as it appears.
Okay, this is hard. Which is weird, since I obviously haven't seen a lot of stuff.
Joseph-
I know, right? There is a DVD copy I've seen at a couple of our stores, but it's a very cheap copy. I imagine there is a better copy available, and I don't know why Netflix doesn't have it. Very bizarre indeed!
Mark & J.D. -
Go for it! I bet your lists will be interesting.
Thanks for shout-out but I'm a bit memed out for now. Besides, I've seen every one of the movies on your list. Okay, all but one. Okay, I've seen about half. Okay, I've seen five but I don't know if Greed counts since I will never be able to see the actual original version.
Fox -
I knew you would come up with a great, inspired list.
I can't believe Netflix does not have "The Quiet Man."
I've seen parts of Greed on TCM, but would love to see the entire film someday.
"Get to Know Your Rabbit" - havent' thought about that one in years! It came out when I was in junior high; some of my friends saw and hated it, but what do 12-year-olds know?
Lapper -
What's up with the non-restoration of Greed anyways? I remember the first time I knew something was complicated about this movie was when I looked it up in the Time Out Film Guide and the lenghth was listed in FEET instead of minutes.
Pat-
Your friends may be right about Get To Know Your Rabbit. My main reason for wanting to see it is 1.) because I am a DePalma completist, and 2.) Orson Welles is in it and, well, that is just weird!
Human Desire looks awesome. I've never heard of it before but still consider myself a Glenn Ford fan.
I'd also bet that The God of Cookery would rock my world.
I really want to see Made in the USA & I've always loved that picture of Karina for some reason.
You can check out the other Holy Grails here. If any of you who were tagged tackle the idea, comment on my blog and I will update it to add your entry:
